Building stronger TB survivors’ networks

Formal registration, advocacy skills and income-generating activities help survivors lead fuller lives and a stronger response.

USTP has supported the development and formal registration of TB survivors’ networks such as the Fellowship of TB Survivors (FOTS) Uganda, the Motivational TB Survivors Network and the Rubaga TB Fighters Network. With legal status, the networks can engage formally with implementing partners and reach communities with the right TB messages.

Social protection and livelihoods

More than half (53.1%) of TB-affected households spend over 20% of their annual expenditure on TB-related costs, mostly travel, nutrition and food during treatment. USTP has supported income-generating activities including poultry farming, baking, mushroom growing, goat rearing, hairdressing, tailoring and fumigation services.

In May 2024, survivors were trained in Kampala on the social protection services available in Uganda, including Emyooga, the Parish Development Model and the Social Assistance Grants for Empowerment (SAGE).
