The Management of Uganda Stop TB Partnership (USTP) is seeking a competent, professional, and experienced individual for the position of Executive Director.

Core Functions

  • To head and be the accounting officer of the USTP secretariat. The ED is in charge of overseeing USTP’s strategic vision and leading the business to grow and achieve the partnership goals and objectives.
  • The ED will work closely with the Board in the preparation and implementation of the strategic direction, work plans, and budgets; prepare and present to the Board reports on activities of the Secretariat; mobilize resources for the running and growth of USTP; spearhead the recruitment drive for membership; increase visibility and promote the USTP brand as a leading organization in the fight against TB; and coordinate and grow the TB constituency.
  • S/he shall be responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the secretariat and keeping safe custody of property, be the secretary to the Board, and be responsible for the actual preparation of meetings of the Board, Working Groups, and Partners Forum.
  • S/he is responsible for guiding USTP’s advocacy efforts, building relationships with key stakeholders, and ensuring the organization’s mission and goals are effectively communicated and pursued.

Specific Tasks

  • Manage the performance of USTP staff through the setting of performance objectives and targets, capacity and career development programmes, and periodic performance reviews.
  • Direct, guide, and coordinate the preparation of annual and other periodic and special reports on the implementation of USTP programmes and related matters, and submit them to the Board, the Committee, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Develop and implement advocacy strategies, lead campaigns, build relationships with stakeholders, and ensure that advocacy efforts are evidence-based and effective.
  • Ensure representation of USTP in strategic partnership meetings and fora, and at key national, regional, and international events.
  • Oversee and monitor the implementation of USTP budgets against programme plans.
  • Oversee the establishment and maintenance of effective communication with USTP members and partners.

Job Requirements

  • A primary degree in Health, Social Sciences, or Development Studies.
  • Postgraduate training in project planning and management, Leadership, and Multi-stakeholder Engagement is an added advantage.
  • 10 years and above experience in health management, Partnership Engagement, Civil Society collaboration, and Health Advocacy and programming is a MUST.

Additional Requirements

  • Experience in TB programming.
  • Knowledge and experience in project implementation and management.
  • Knowledge of the Uganda health policy and TB strategies, and stakeholders at the Ministry of Health and district local governments.
  • The candidate should demonstrate good understanding, analysis, and use of health data.
  • Self-driven individual.
  • Good team building skills and able to communicate effectively.
  • Able to write and present issues with clarity.
  • Ability to coach staff.
  • Ability to relate with government, CSO, and donor partners.
  • Good time management.

Personal Competencies and Qualities

  • Demonstrated ability for effective communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, and relationship building.
  • Demonstrated ability for creativity, problem solving, emotional intelligence, motivation, and decision making.
  • Strong advocacy technical skills are essential, supported by real experience as necessary.
  • Ability to mentor, develop, and motivate staff and partners.
  • Result-oriented with the ability to meet tight deadlines while demonstrating organization in work processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to fundraise, engage donors, lead grant writing, and grow an organizational portfolio.
