Kampala, Uganda – Uganda Stop TB Partnership (USTP), in collaboration with key health partners, launched a large-scale tuberculosis awareness and screening campaign during the commemoration of the #UgandaMartyrs. Targeting pilgrims at both the Catholic and Anglican shrines, the initiative screened over 1,000 individuals for TB and amplified community engagement to combat stigma and improve early detection.

The campaign, held amid the historic religious gathering, integrated health services into the pilgrimage experience. A mobile TB clinic van provided on-site testing, while teams conducted door-to-door awareness sessions, emphasizing TB prevention, symptoms, and treatment access. Strategic planning ensured coverage across both shrines, prioritizing high-footfall areas to maximize outreach.

Highlights from the Campaign:

“Mobilizing during such a significant event allowed us to reach vulnerable populations who might otherwise lack access to healthcare,” said a USTP coordinator. “Early detection saves lives, and this campaign bridges gaps in TB care through community-driven action.”

The activity also emphasized Uganda’s progress toward UNHLM TB targets, with advocates sharing success stories and urging pilgrims to become TB ambassadors in their communities. Free educational materials and interactive sessions addressed myths, reducing stigma and encouraging open dialogue about the disease.

USTP’s innovative integration of health services into cultural and religious gatherings underscores its commitment to equitable TB care. Stay tuned as these efforts continue to inspire nationwide health advocacy!
