Kampala, Uganda – Uganda Stop TB Partnership (USTP) recently concluded a transformative three-day skills-building training aimed at empowering TB survivors and affected individuals to overcome socio-economic challenges through sustainable income-generating activities (IGAs). Held across Kampala Capital City’s five divisions, the initiative equipped participants with practical skills to foster financial independence and resilience.
The training, designed to address the unique hurdles faced by TB-affected communities, focused on imparting knowledge in diverse IGAs, including mushroom farming, poultry management, liquid soap production, bookbinding, and shoemaking. Participants engaged in hands-on workshops, mentorship sessions, and field visits to existing survivor-led enterprises, gaining firsthand insights into managing successful small-scale businesses.
Highlights from the Training:
“This training was more than just skill transfer—it was about restoring dignity and fostering self-reliance,” said a USTP program coordinator. “By investing in the capacities of TB survivors, we’re tackling poverty and stigma while building healthier communities.”
The activity aligns with USTP’s broader mission to integrate socio-economic support into TB care, ensuring survivors and their families thrive beyond treatment. With renewed confidence and skills, participants are now poised to launch or expand their enterprises, creating ripple effects of empowerment across Kampala.
