Kampala, Uganda – Uganda Stop TB Partnership (USTP) convened a high-profile one-day dialogue meeting with key stakeholders, including members of the TB Parliamentary Caucus, celebrities, journalists, and focal persons from the Multi-Accountability Framework (MAF) Implementing Partners. The forum aimed to galvanize collective action toward achieving Uganda’s commitments under the United Nations High-Level Meeting (UNHLM) on TB targets, fostering collaboration to address gaps and accelerate progress.
The dialogue centered on three critical objectives:
- Reviewing Progress: Sharing updates on Uganda’s advancements toward meeting the 2023 UNHLM TB targets.
- Addressing Challenges: Strategizing solutions to bridge gaps in unachieved targets, particularly in TB prevention, diagnosis, and treatment access.
- Strengthening Partnerships: Enhancing coordination among policymakers, media, civil society, and development partners to sustain momentum.
Sessions featured data-driven presentations on Uganda’s TB response, panel discussions on resource mobilization, and interactive debates on leveraging media and celebrity influence to combat stigma. Participants also critiqued existing policies, advocating for increased domestic funding and community-centered approaches to reach marginalized populations.
“This dialogue is a pivotal step toward translating global commitments into local impact,” said a USTP representative. “By uniting parliamentarians, advocates, and implementers, we’re creating a roadmap to close the TB care gap and ensure no one is left behind.”
The meeting concluded with renewed pledges from stakeholders to prioritize TB in national agendas, improve accountability mechanisms, and amplify public awareness campaigns. Journalists committed to spotlighting TB stories, while lawmakers vowed to push for stronger health budget allocations.
