Butaleja successfully hosts National World TB & Leprosy day

World TB Day is an annual event that aims to raise public awareness about tuberculosis and its devastating impact on people’s health and well-being. This year, the event in Uganda was hosted on 24th March 2023 in the Butaleja district. The chief guest for the event was Rt. Hon. Rukia Nakadama, a prominent political leader in the country.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Health in partnership with various non-governmental organizations and international agencies. The theme for this year’s event was “Yes! We can end TB. What are you doing to end TB?” (for TB) and “United for Dignity” (for Leprosy), which reflects the urgent need to address the high burden of TB and Leprosy in the country.

During the event, various stakeholders, including health experts, policymakers, civil society organizations, and people affected by TB, came together to discuss strategies for tackling the disease. The discussions focused on improving TB diagnosis and treatment, increasing access to TB services, and addressing the social and economic determinants of TB.

The event also featured cultural performances and exhibitions showcasing the efforts of various organizations in the fight against TB. The chief guest, Rt. Hon. Rukia Nakadama emphasized the need for sustained investment in TB control and prevention programs and called on all stakeholders to work together to achieve a TB-free Uganda.

Overall, the World TB Day event in Butaleja district provided a platform for stakeholders to recommit to the goal of eliminating TB in Uganda and to renew efforts towards achieving that goal.
